Guidelines

Date and time

November 8, 2015 (Sun) ※Races will take place rain or shine.

  • 8:15 – Wheelchair race starts
  • 8:20 – Marathon/fun run starts
  • 15:20 – Marathon finishes

Rules

All races are administered in accordance with the 2015 Rules of the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and the regulations for this competition.

※1 2,000 local advance applications (residents of Fukuoka City or Itoshima City) for the marathon will be taken in advance of standard applications.

  • ①The fun run is not a competitive event but is meant for the enjoyment of entrants. Entrants in this event will not have their times recorded or receive awards. Also, the start line for the fun run will be set behind the last blocks for the marathon.
  • ②Time limits are based on gun time.
  • ③Duplicate applications cannot be made for individual entry and group entry.
  • ④Applications for group entry can only be made online.

Qualifications

  • (1)Marathon:
    Athletes born on or before April 1, 1997 (excluding high school students)
    i) Registered athletes: Athletes registered with JAAF as of fiscal 2015
    ii) General: Those not registered with JAAF
    Categories i) and ii) are both open to men and women capable of completing the race within 6 hours 45 minutes including athletes from Japan and overseas who have been recommended by Fukuoka Marathon.
  • (2)Wheelchair race:
    Open to men and women of junior high school age and above (excluding non-handicapped persons) capable of completing a race within 30 minutes in a racing wheelchair (in accordance with the Rules of the Japan Association of Athletics Federations for the Japan Para Athletics).
  • (3)Fun run:
    Open to men and women of junior high school age and above capable of completing a race within 50 minutes.

※Entrants in the marathon and fun run who have disabilities (those in possession of a physical disability certificate, a rehabilitation certificate or a similar document certifying their disability status) and who find it difficult to run unaided can be accompanied by an escort (blind dogs not permitted).

※Entrants are not allowed to participate in the marathon or fun run in a wheelchair.

Checkpoints

  • (1)Multiple checkpoints are set throughout the course due to limitations in traffic control, security concerns and event operation. Entrants who fail to pass a checkpoint before the cut-off time will be disqualified. Entrants will be directed to board a rescue vehicle by a member of staff in the event of disqualification.
  • (2)The organizers may disqualify entrants even before the cut-off time if the organizers deem that the entrants cannot pass a checkpoint before the cut-off time, or that they cannot continue the race.

Start line

  • (1)In order to ensure a safe and smooth start to the marathon, standby blocks will be set according to the times athletes declare when registering irrespective of whether they are registered with JAAF. Those who do not declare a time will start from the blocks at the rear of the line.
  • (2)The start line for the fun run will be set behind the last blocks for the marathon.

(JASPO standards) ※Entrants who fail to specify a t-shirt size in their application will be assigned an S size if female and M size if male.

Awards

  • (1)Marathon (overall): 1st – 8th place for both men and women separately
  • (2)Marathon (by age group): 1st – 3rd place for both men and women separately(24 years and under, 25 – 29 years (divided into 5-year age groups up until 74 years), 75 years and above)
  • (3)Wheelchair race: 1st – 3rd place for men and women separately
  • ※There is no award ceremony for (2). Certificates will be sent to winners at a later date
  • ※There are no awards for the fun run.

Shuttle bus

Shuttle buses are available to transport marathon entrants from the finish location to JR Chikuzen-Maebaru Station (free of charge), or to Tenjin/Hakata Stations (charged). Also, shuttle buses to transport supporters from around JR Chikuzen-Maebaru Station to the finish location are available (free of charge). There are no parking spaces available around the finish location, so please refrain from coming by car.

Handling of personal information

The organizers are aware of the importance of personal information, and will handle all personal information based on policies on protecting personal information drawn up by the organizers in adherence to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other related laws.
Personal information is used for the purpose of improving services for marathon entrants, such as the provision of race guides, notifications of records, notification of related information, provision of services from marathon sponsors, supporters and related organizations, the publication of records (rankings etc.), and surveys.

※In some cases, the organizers or Fukuoka Marathon Entry Center will contact applicants to confirm their application details.

Rules concerning fancy dress

The following rules concerning fancy dress are designed to ensure that everyone connected with FUKUOKA MARATHON, not only runners but also spectators and volunteers, can participate in a fun and safe environment. Before applying to compete in events, please make sure that you read and agree to abide by the following rules.

  •  ■Entrants competing in the registered athletes category are not permitted to run in fancy dress.

    ・Please apply for the general category if you wish to run in fancy dress.

    ・Note that registered athletes who run in the general category will not be eligible to have their times officially recorded.

  •  ■Those competing in events other than those in the registered category are not permitted to wear fancy dress costumes of a kind that are unsuitable for sporting events, such as those that contravene laws or go against public order and standards of decency, or those that compromise the safety or comfort of other runners and spectators. Those deemed by the organizers to be in violation of these rules may be disqualified from their event, either before or after the race begins. All decisions are final and not subject to appeal. In the interest of everyone’s enjoyment, we request your kind consideration in this matter.

(Examples of prohibited fancy dress costumes)

  • Costumes with the potential to injure other runners or that pose a risk to the health of the runner in question. Also, the wearing of items that cannot be easily removed.
    E.g. Masks covering the entire face, character costumes covering the whole body
    E.g. Costumes in which the runner is naked, in underwear or in a similar state

  • Carrying or wearing long or large objects that take up space, or other sharp or pointy objects.
    E.g. Blades or rod-shaped objects, banner flags
    E.g. Wearing gigantic objects
    E.g. Wearing things with a pointy tip, such as suits of armor or helmets

  • Running while using musical instruments that make a loud noise or emit light, fireworks etc.
    E.g. Playing audio devices or instruments such as whistles or guitars
    E.g. Using devices such as cameras that emit a strong flash

  • Running in costumes intended to promote political or religious organizations or soliciting for donations or signatures, or running in costumes intended to promote the sale of products.

    E.g. Wearing sashes or items of clothing printed with the names of political parties or religious names

    E.g. Wearing items displaying content that promotes specific products

  • Entrants are prohibited from inviting non-entrants or pets onto the course to run with them. Entrants are also not allowed to run with baby strollers.
    E.g. Running while carrying children or pushing a baby stroller
    E.g. Inviting family, friends or acquaintances who are not entrants onto the course to run together

Other

  • (1)Entry fees/processing fees will not be refunded if the event is cancelled due to reasons beyond the control of the organizers, such as earthquakes, wind or flood damage, storms, snowfall, unforeseen occurrences, mishaps, epidemics, or other similar cases.
  • (2)Entrants are expected to train sufficiently, undergo a medical checkup, and otherwise be fully prepared for the event.
  • (3)During the event (including on the course), entrants are prohibited from wearing or displaying logos or trademarks representing a company or product name for the purpose of advertising.
  • (4)The organizers will transport entrants' baggage from start to finish locations. Please note that this service covers only items that fit in the hand luggage bag provided during check-in. Please be aware that traffic conditions may delay the arrival of baggage.
  • (5)Parking is not available at the venue, so please use public transportation. The organizers will not be responsible for entrants arriving late due to public transport or road traffic conditions on the day of the marathon.
  • (6)In the event of an emergency during the marathon, such as an accident or fire, emergency vehicles may be given access to anywhere along the course. In such cases, races will be temporarily halted on the instructions of staff.
  • (7)For organizational and promotional purposes, the organizers or approved third parties may publish video footage, photographs, articles or personal records of the marathon through media including promotional materials such as marathon programs and posters, as well as television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and the internet.
  • (8)For event-related matters not covered above, please follow the instructions of the organizers.
  • (9)Guidelines are subject to change. Announcements will be posted on the Fukuoka Marathon website.
  • (10)Receipts for entry fees etc.
    • Payment via credit card
      Receipts will not be issued. Entrants are requested to use their credit card statement or bill in place of an official receipt.
    • Payment via designated money transfer form or at a convenience store
      Receipts will not be issued. Entrants are requested to use their note of transfer in place of an official receipt.
